There are 65+ scholarship opportunities for the SDHS graduates that are administered through the San Diego High School Foundation. Several of them are renewable - providing support for students over several years at collage.
Submissions must be made electronically by March31, including applications for the following scholarships:
Academy of Finance Scholarship: $200-$1,000
Open to any SDHS student who enrolled in the Academy of Finance, will be attending two or four-year college/university, and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement.
Alexander and Cassandra Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a trade/technical program or two or four-year college/university, who has a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and who can demonstrate immigrant or English Learner background through their personal statement.
Burr C. Passenheim Science/Math Awards: 6 Scholarships at $2,500 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.5 or greater, who has shown excellence in advanced courses in science and/or math (IB/AP) and will major in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science
Carol Ortman Perkins Scholarship: $2,000
Open to any SDHS student continuing their education with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and can demonstrate interest in a teaching career through their personal statement. They must have letters of recommendation from two teachers in SDHS.
Carrilou Ward Hurlbut Music Award, Class of 1949: $500
Open to any SDHS student continuing their education with a GPA of 2.5 or greater who has been participating in the orchestra, band, or choir program at SDHS or taking the IB Music. They must have a letter of recommendation from a music teacher
Catherine Conant Scholarships: 4 Scholarships at $1,100 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a trade/technical program or community college, has a GPA of at least 3.28 and can demonstrate service to SDHS through their personal statement
Churlis Freese Scholarship - 3 Scholarships at $2,500 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a trade/technical program or two or four-year college/university, who has a GPA of 3.0 or more and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement. Preference will be given to students with an interest in a teaching career.
Class of 1960 Alumni Scholarship - 2 Scholarships at $500 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending Community college with at least a 3.5 GPA in English and at least a 3.0 GPA overall. They must have a letter of recommendation from an English teacher
Class of 1987 Alumni Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a four-year college. There are no additional requirements except a personal statement.
Class of 1990s Alumni Scholarship: $500
Open to any SDHS student who will be continuing their education and can demonstrate financial need through a personal statement (the amount of this award may increase - we are still receiving donations from our 1990's alumni!)
Class of 1994 Alumni Scholarship: 5 Scholarships at $1,000 each
Open to any SDHS student who is continuing their education with a GPA of 2.5 or greater and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement. Preference will be given to students participating in a trade/technical program.
Class of 1994 Green Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any female SDHS student continuing their education with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement. Preference will be given to students participating in a trade/technical program.
Class of 1996 Alumni Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who is continuing their education and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement.
David Batchelder Memorial Scholarship: $1,500
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a four-year college/university with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and can demonstrate financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities through their personal statement.
Daniel Cruz Gonzalez Scholarship: $2,500
Open to any SDHS student with a Hispanic background who will be attending a four-year college/university and can demonstrate financial need through their personal statement; preference will be given to residents of the Logan Heights area who are aiming for a career in public service or teaching.
Dillard Scholarships: 6 Scholarships at $2,500 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a two or four-year college/university, who has a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and who can demonstrate financial need and involvement in service to SDHS or the greater San Diego community through personal statement
Irma Risty Engineering Scholarship: $2,500
Open to any SDHS student who will be majoring in Math or Engineering at a four-year college/university, has a GPA of 3.5 or greater, has demonstrated excellence in math (AP/IB/college classes), participated in extracurricular math-related activities, for example, math competitions or robotics, and can demonstrate financial need in their person statement. A letter of recommendation from a math teacher is required.
Jose Gonzales Athletic Scholarships: 2 Scholarships at $300 each
Open to any SDHS Senior varsity letter athlete who will be attending a community college or two or four-year college/university. A letter of recommendation from a team coach is required.
Karen deLaurier IB Scholarships: 2 Scholarships at $1,000 each
Open to any SDHS IB Diploma candidate who will be attending a four-year college/university, has a GPA of 3.0 GPA or greater and can demonstrate community service through their personal statement
Lilian Santa Fine Arts Scholarships: 3 Scholarships at $2,000 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a two or four-year college/university, has a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and can demonstrate excellence in Drama, Art, and/or Music through their personal statement. There will be one award recipient for each subject.
Ly Family Scholarship: $500
Open to any SDHS student who is continuing their education. There are no additional requirements except a personal statement.
Mac McLaughlin Scholarships, Midway Foundation: 6 Scholarships at $5,000 each; renewable (the student will receive the award every year if they remain eligible)
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending San Diego Community College Career Education Program or two or four-year college/university and can demonstrate contribution to SDHS or the greater community through their personal statement.
Hura Doc Murphy Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a Trade/technical program, community college, two or four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who can demonstrate overcoming hardship, handicaps, or other obstacles in their personal life to achieve academic success through their personal statement.
Irene Murphy Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a Trade/technical program, community college, two or four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who can demonstrate successful participation in school, community, and/or international service through their
personal statement
Stanley Wanell Murphy Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a Trade/technical program, community college, two or four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who can demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities and an interest in a teaching career through their personal statement.
Ralph Lundberg Memorial Scholarship: 2 Scholarships at $2,500 each (the student will receive the award every year if they remain eligible)
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a two or four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who can demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities at SDHS or the San Diego Community through the personal statement. Preference will be given to students who have an interest in a teaching career.
Rose M Wirtz Memorial Scholarships: 2 Scholarships at $2,500 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be pursuing a degree in the business field with a GPA of 3.0 or greater
San Diego Women’s Club Scholarships. In Honor of Mrs. Pearl Prine, Ms. Judy Mantle: 2 Scholarships at $2,500 each; renewable (the student will receive the award every year if they remain eligible)
Open to any female SDHS student who will be attending a four-year college/university with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and can demonstrate contribution to SDHS and/or the greater community and interest in a teaching career through their personal statement.
SDHS Foundation Scholarships: 2 Scholarships at $1,000 each
Open to any SDHS student who will be participating in a Trade/technical program, two or four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and can demonstrate involvement in community service and interest in a technology career through personal statement
Sharp Rees-Steely Medical Group Health Scholarship: $1,500
Open to any SDHS student who enrolled in the MedTech Academy, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who will be attending a trade/technical program or two or four-year college/university, and who will be pursuing a career in the healthcare field (for example Nurse’s Aide, Physician Assistant, etc.)
Stan Murphy History Scholarship: $1,000
Open to any SDHS student continuing their education, with no GPA requirement. The applicant must demonstrate excellence in History classes and have a letter of recommendation from a history teacher. Preference will be given to students majoring in History or other humanities.
Steve McIntire Memorial Scholarship: $1,500
Open to any SDHS student who will be attending a four-year college/university, with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and can demonstrate financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities through personal statement.
Stout Family Scholar/Athlete Scholarships: 2 Scholarships at $500 each
Open to any SDHS Senior varsity letter athlete who is continuing their education with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and has a letter of recommendation from a team coach
Tom Logan Athletic Scholarship: Scholarship Amount: $1,125

The Nelson Simmons Valedictorian/Salutatorian Awards - $500 each
Our SDHS counselors select the recipients based on valedictorian and salutatorian.
The Chao Zheng Culinary Scholarship - $1000
The SDHS student receiving this award will be selected by our Culinary teaching staff
