OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The School Site Council (SSC) is a decision-making group that provides oversight on matters dealing with Federal and State funded programs. SSC is responsible for:

  • School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)
    • Reviewing, revising, and evaluating on a yearly basis
    • Identifying goals that drive the school's instructional programs
    • Budgeting for strategies and actions in the SPSA to attain goals
    • Ensuring that the SPSA is aligned to the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
    • Monitoring the SPSA throughout the year
  • Approving, monitoring, and reviewing categorical budgets (Title 1) and CSI (if applicable)
  • Reviewing the LCFF budget
  • Reviewing and monitoring the Site Parent and Family Engagement Policy
  • Reviewing and monitoring the Site School Parent Compact

The SSC is required at all schools in the San Diego Unified School District.

MEMBERSHIP

School Site Councils are comprised of parents, community members, staff, and students at secondary schools, who are selected by each of their constituent groups.

At the secondary level (high schools), the minimum number of members on the SSC is twelve. Membership is comprised of one quarter students, one quarter parents and community members; and half school personnel, with classroom teachers in the majority, and one other staff member (not a classroom teacher).

The principal is an ex-officio member of the SSC. A School Site Council may have more members, as long as the correct configuration for secondary schools is maintained.

Education Code 52852 requires that the SSC be configured as follows:

High Schools
Secondary Model - Minimum of 10 members

50% Parent/Community/Students

  • Parents/community members may not be employed at the school site.

Students must be currently enrolled in the school

  • Nomination forms will be made available to students. All students nominated by their peers MUST accept the nomination prior to their name being placed on the official ballot.
  • Once the official ballot has been created, the currently enrolled students will vote for the student members. The three (3) students who receive the most votes will be the student members; the student receiving the fourth highest number of votes will be the student alternate.

50% School Personnel
